The peaches are absolutely glorious in the stores right now, I am surprised they are still in season. You know what that means, don’t you? Homemade Peach Ice Cream for our football watching guests tonight. The ice cream is churning right now as I type and I know for a fact there will be no leftovers; it is the best ever. I grew up eating this ice cream, and it will forever be my measure of good ice cream. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, I recommend one with a stainless steel freezer bowl– that can live in the freezer so you are always minutes away from spur of the moment greatness. Ice cream is so easy to make and requires so few ingredients that it pays to be prepared.
Peach Ice Cream
1 1/2 Quarts of Ripe sliced fresh peaches
1 cup of Sugar
1/2 tsp Almond Extract
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 cups Heavy Cream
2 cups half and half
1/8 tsp of salt
Sprinkle peaches with 1/2 of the sugar. Cover. Mix cream with remaining sugar and extracts, put mixture into ice cream maker, run ice cream machine until partially frozen. Then gently add the peaches, continue until it gets to a firm soft ice cream consistency. Serve immediately or spoon into a freezer safe container – if you don’t transfer it fast, it will continue to freeze to the sides of the freezer bowl and you will get less ice cream. Hand wash freezer bowl (do not put in dishwasher), dry and return to freezer, doubly wrapped in plastic so it will stay clean and ready for the next round of ice cream. I seriously doubt you will have leftovers. Enjoy~
That sound’s so yummy Courtney!! I may have to try this out.
I know you will approve, Chef.
Ooooh, this sounds good. I have to try this. My recipe was not so peachy last year. 😉
