Crystals, stones and talismans have fascinated mankind for centuries. Used as ornamentation and as symbols of wealth and power for thousands of years, crystals were valued for their specific sacred properties as much as for their beauty. Their healing properties were as important as their ability to adorn.
Ancient Egyptians placed a mystical value on crystals and chose stones carefully for various properties both protective and healing, for life and afterlife. Healing stones and protective amulets were part of their daily lives. The richest and most powerful carefully selected specific stones for their crowns and regal accessories.
Crystals have been found in ancient graves to insure safe passage into the next world. In ancient Greece, hematite was used as protection for soldiers in battle. Broadly speaking, the darker, black stones (black tourmaline, onyx, obsidian, smoky quartz) represented protection and grounding, which is why you might see those more in mens accessories. The lighter, clearer ones (clear quartz, selenite, Celestine, rose quartz, amethyst, aquamarine) generally are attributed to connecting to spiritual realms.
Fast forward to the Victorian days, when the men of means wore pocket watches with fobs attached, with carefully chosen stones such as citrine or carnelian for their properties to gain & maintain wealth, amethyst for healing and calming properties, tigers eye or onyx for protective properties.
Which brings us to today, where specific jewels for the home are increasingly targeted for specific properties to energetically accessorize spaces, and these products are not for limited budgets. But for many the sparkle and comfort that the jewels bring to their rooms is enough. Either way, nature’s jewelry is magically beautiful.
