OK, I know it’s only January 1, but is anybody else as sick and tired of the Color Of The Year DRAMA? Everywhere I turn, someone is joyfully sharing the new’s of Emerald’s replacement- as if this a) is news or b) might be worthy of a Pulitzer Prize. I mean really… what does Pantone think we are going to do with Radiant Orchid for a year… are we to advise our trusting design clients to redo everything in this pepto derivative? Let’s peer into the crystal ball to see how it could reshape our year… IF… it were to take off and transform the world. Just humor me for a second:
Safe to say: NEVER.
Niet.
Highly unlikely…
Don’t get any ideas, Nabisco..Please no more food dyes…
When pigs fly.
Grrrr.
Absolutely not.

“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.” |
Just say “no” to radiant orchid is going to be my advice. This color is like a date stamp on steroids, fun in throw away doses but not for permanence.
Courtney I love how you showed the reality of coloring the world in not-so-radiant orchid. XO
yes, I tend to agree with you Lisa.. Happy New Year!!
You are so funny!!! Happy new year Courtney!! All the best to you and your family in 2014!!! I wnder how Pantone picks the color of the year….I don’t mind this one….it will just be more for accessories and small pops in my opinion.
Yes, Albertina, I was wondering how Pantone choses it as well, and who that choice is really for. Happy New Year, creative one!!!
Good job! Funny thing i looked around the other day and i guess i am in some kind of ‘purple’ phase and all this after my last 8 yrs of TCU ….i am rather liking the orchid jet!
Rita, you better get after some orchid antlers! Actually, that sounds pretty darn cool against a white wall. !!! Cheers, Happy New Year!
Hilarious and right on point. It’s heinous, hideous and horrible. It’s also the best example to illustrate why no person or company should dictate what is “popular.” I sure hope Anna Wintor stumbles upon this post. That radiant “wig” is magic!
oooh, Kathy, do we really hope she stumbles upon this??
Love the color…in flowers only!!!
Happy New Year!!
beautiful on orchids, I agree! Cheers, Maria.
I agree, if at all, radiant orchid will be a short lived faddish accent, not in the classic ranks for sure. I suspect we will see it showing up in hair highlights for the 20 somethings. For interiors, I prefer to see it as a secondary color accent in fabrics and art. Trends are fun to follow but should never dictate your choices. Important to remember one primary goal of trends is to add fuel to economy by making people think they have to change what they already have and like. I always encourage people to stick with the colors that truly speak to them regardless if someone is telling them it’s in or out.
Terri, you make an excellent point about the goal of some of these trends…
Courtney, my love,
When are you available for photoshop lessons? XO
ha!! thanks Laurie! Happy New Year!
This colour must have been chosen by someone who wasn’t alive in the 80’s 😉 No one else would want to see a return to this colour in decor. Funny photos and great points!!
good point, maybe we can blame this choice on the youth!!! LOL
This made me laugh! I have to admit I like the color but totally get that no one else would. I think that is why I liked it in the first place. I never dreamed anyone else would choose it!!!
Now you made me laugh, Lisa!! Happy New Year, sweet friend.
I do like to see the numerous ways people use the “color of the year”, but I have found myself hesitant to incorporate orange or emerald in large quantities, as they could be viewed as “so yesterday” or should I say yester-year!
Stacy- interested to hear your thoughts on the latest “radiant” selection…!! If you see any of it on blogtour (congrats btw) be sure to share it with us~
