The Hampton Designer Showhouse, now in its fourteenth year, is a showcase for America’s premier design talent. Over 25 top interior designers and decorative artists have turned a magnificent shingle style home into a decorating masterpiece. The Showhouse opened with a Gala Preview Cocktail Party on Saturday, July 19, 2014, and will run until Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2014 in Bridgehampton, New York.
The Gala Preview Cocktail event was quite a party and offered the chance to meet the talent behind the design. This house is – enormous. I will give you a tour of the highlights rather than a room by room tour, because, like I said, this is a LOT of house… to the tune of 8 bedrooms, 9 full bathrooms, 3 half baths, pool house, gym, man cave, 2.38 acres, you get the drift. Spoiler Alert: the house is for sale for a mere $13,495,000. Now I know I have gotten your attention. Let’s go take a peek at some show house highlights-
Let’s start with this welcoming first impression. If you know me, you know I love a little subtle humor tossed into design every now and then. I want this bust!

Great Room by Patrik Lonn Design
This is only half of it. The room is huge, open, light and neutral. Two seating areas and a grand piano.
Living Room by Nancy Galasso, Thom Bellucci and Diane Karmen of Lilian August Designs
This room has a chic mix of textures and color. I love the Eliko Rug and the chandelier by Troy Lighting.
This beautiful pop of color worked its way around the room with style.
Library by Greg McKenzie Design
I love the ceiling wallpaper and light fixture. This room has a full bath and can be used as a downstairs bedroom.
This dining room has a lot going on, which will require more than one photo. How great is this wallpaper?! Very warm and clubby feeling. Three tables are set to accommodate 32 guests, see detail below of the settings (Mecox KNOWS how to set a table right). Straight ahead, note the glass front wine room; how clever to place it IN the dining room. Two oversized Slim Aarons photos flank the doorway in which I stood to take this photo. Most of the items in this room are from Mecox Gardens, the original of the Mecox stores, located in Southampton.

What a bright happy kitchen. Love the island and the pop of green.
Wow! How great is that white lacquer. And the enormous double Sub-Zero refrigerator.

Mudroom by Melanie Roy Design
Not sure what the builder had in mind for the use of this large space, but this designer did a nice job carrying out a beachy theme.
Nautical Bathroom by Melanie Roy Design
The stripes work… and the sconces are perfect. This bathroom is right off of the mudroom, continuing the theme.
I like the attention to detail even outside of the window- nice focal point in the lower level hallway.
OK, let’s go upstairs to the 2nd floor.
Hamptons Trellis Bedroom by Jennifer Mabley and Austin Handler of Mabley Handler Interior Design
This bedroom has a lot of cool things going on in it. You really have to step into the room to gather all of the well-executed details and materials. The room is papered in Phillip Jeffries “Mad About Plaid” printed grasscloth wallpaper- even onto the slope of the tray ceiling, adding dramatic perspective to the room. Jennifer Mabley and Austin Handler chose to debut Kravet’s new Diane von Furstenberg collection – and it is awesome. Most of the furniture is Kravet as well. The gorgeous hand-knotted Custom Cool Rug is customized by Mabley Handler, made of silk/wool/linen in a stunning range of colors.
Here we get a closer look at the custom rug, the fantastic chandelier by Bone Simple Design, and bed/bedside tables/desk/chair by Kravet. Such a beautiful mix of textures and pattern, pulled off with an eye for detail. This room is hard to capture all in one photo, but to stand in it makes you feel upbeat. This lively space ensconces you in a symphony of blues, corals, and even a hint of lavender (in the “batik Leaf” patterned rug). I always say, if you are going to be bold, you have to employ the right mix of skill and talent to pull it off. Clearly, Mabley Handler enjoys what they do and it shows. We see why they are THE go-to design firm in the Hamptons.
This ultra-feminine room feels like a soothing cloud of whites and light blues. We see some of her Mrs. Howard pieces in the mix, and with the soft textures, colors and lighting, she holds true to her “keep it pretty” mantra in the design of this charming room.

This very tailored table skirt is elegant. I like how the shifts of color and pattern play off of each other…
Range of lavenders and purples extends even to the roses…
This roof terrace drew a lot of attention during the opening gala. The stripes and tailored upholstery are so crisp and inviting, and the view is intoxicating, see below-

Can we say… POOL PARTY?! All furniture by Frontgate.
This pool house fronts onto the pool and backs onto the tennis courts, outdoor seating areas on both sides. After seeing all of this great pool and pool house furniture, I clearly need to revisit Frontgate, their furniture was good-looking.
