For those of you who have not attended South By Southwest Interactive (SXSW) in Austin, it is branding/marketing mecca. Major brands literally take over every inch of downtown Austin, disrobing commercial spaces of their current signage and furnishings to adorn them with their own creatively branded themes for the duration of the show, with no expense spared. Even parking lots are fair game for event site transformation; it is almost as if the Austin you know goes into the witness protection program as it morphs into a creative tech-wonderland for a week. Mashable is known for their highly anticipated Mashable House, Samsung creates a Samsung Studio, IBM has a Cognitive Studio, Google Fiber takes over a huge commercial space, and the list goes on, down to tents and vehicles that roam the streets hoping to catch your attention. Advertising takes on all forms.
The best of branding was an obvious standout.

Consumer Electronics Show regulars reported that this year’s show was pretty similar to last year- no real standouts. CES buzz somewhat predictably centered around drones, cars, wearables, tracking technologies, oculus, and home innovations. Here’s the skinny: Drones drones drones. Embracing the millennial attitude, Lyft has partnered with GM to bring us self driving cars, because do we really need to own a car when we can simply pay a subscription fee to drive one? Wearables are expected to “disappear” in 2016, meaning that they will morph from clunky to fashionable. Tracking technologies and cameras will be everywhere, so you better behave.
Now, onto home innovation standouts, here and on the way: [Read more…] about Home Innovation Buzz, 2016
My colleague, JoDee Brownsworth Taylor and I have made it to the round of voting to be panelists for SXSW Interactive next year. Our topic will be a gold mine of information for bloggers who wish to have a good online presence and work with brands.
Social Media Netiquette and Working with Brands
Two bloggers who manage social media for major brands offer pointers for bloggers and social media users who aspire to work with brands. Director of Social Media for a fortune 50 company and social media consultant for a leading interior design manufacturer and other brands will share with bloggers strategies for a solid online presence and how to get noticed by the brands they want to work with. What is the best way to approach a brand? What can they really see about you and your stats? What are brands looking for in a blogger and how can you best position yourself to work with them?
The speaker selection process is cut throat and requires votes at this stage. We would really appreciate your vote, comments, shares, support. Thank you so much. xxc
