Pop Artist Spotlight: Gieler

Michiel Folkers, who goes by the artist name of Gieler, was born in 1982 in the Netherlands. In the late 90’s he began experimenting with graffiti in Amsterdam. For years Gieler remained active with spraying letters on walls but as he got older, graffiti evolved into street-art, where he started to experiment on canvas with pulled street posters, spray paint, acrylic and lacquer. Claude Monet At Giverny

A DAY WITH CLAUDE MONET IN GIVERNY
A DAY WITH CLAUDE MONET IN GIVERNY, written by Adrien Goetz and
with a foreword by Hugues Gall, takes readers on an unprecedented tour of the artist’s carefully crafted gardens as well as into his home and studio, both of which have been fully restored. Alongside photographs of the garden are reproductions of Monet’s masterpieces to illustrate how the flora and fauna influenced his art.
This handsome, slipcased volume also serves as a travelogue to the area highlighting points of interest, places to visit, and the region’s rich history. From breakfast at Le Coin des Artistes and a stay at the historic Hôtel Baudy, to a visit to the Musée des Impressionnismes and the Church of Sainte Radegonde, Goetz vibrantly captures the charm of the Norman countryside.

The highly anticipated opening this weekend at the Madison Gallery in La Jolla (shown above) is Hunt Slonem’s third solo exhibition, When Art Meets Design. He is one of the few contemporary artists that have remained true to himself and his style. His latest book, along with this exhibit, When Art Meets Design, celebrates [Read more…]
