AT HOME with DOGS and their DESIGNERS, Sharing a Stylish Life
By Susanna Salk

Kelly Wearstler’s dog Willie
Susanna Salk and Stacy Bewkes have done it again with their AT HOME WITH series, inviting us into the posh homes of 21 dog-loving interior designers. We get to see just how much these top designers value the lucky dogs in their lives and how they thoughtfully design their homes around these pups. The designers provide resources and tips for designing with dogs in mind. If you are familiar with Stacy Bewkes’ social media presence, you know to expect excellent photography, and trust me when I say that she doesn’t disappoint with this visual feast. Robert Couturier kicks off this dog & designer show with a beautiful foreward.
Dog lovers will appreciate the outpouring of love that flows through every page of this book. While the featured animals have hit the jackpot with high-end, loving homes, Salk gently makes the point that all dogs deserve a loving home – kindly encouraging awareness of the many dogs in need of adoption. This book is equal parts visual feast and resource for all things dog- including charities, adoption, and posh canine accessories. There is so much to love about this book, and here are a few examples:
A TIP ON LIVING A STYLISH LIFE:

“Dogs are the better parts of our souls as
they never lie, they never betray, they never
falter, and they never disappoint. They love us
unconditionally whether or not we are in a
good mood or we have bad breath. I will never
live without dogs as they truly make my world
beautiful and the unavoidable unhappiness
bearable.” – Robert Couturier

Mary McDonald, On Keeping a Pack Intact:
“It’s hard to keep track of more than two dogs, so if you have
more than that, get in the habit of doing a head count to make
sure that they are all inside. (I could accidentally take in a
raccoon and not notice, since I am satisfied once I hit five and
close the door.)”

“Over twenty years ago I learned from a French woman
selling high-end textiles in her Parisian shop about a
fabulous idea for a dog cover to protect my furniture: Buy
extra yardage of a fabric that you are using to upholster
sofas and chairs to make matching dog covers. The covers
will blend in with the upholstery and when they get dirty,
you can send them to the dry cleaners. I lightly quilt
the fabric covers and dress them up with a pretty trim.
Alternatively, you can also quilt a cover, turn it, and not
add trim, which makes it practically disappear atop your
upholstered furniture.” -Carolyne Roehm
Although I have lost count of how many books Susanna Salk has written, this one is definitely my favorite. It bursts with love, pointers, resources, and inspiration from cover to cover.
AT HOME with DOGS and their DESIGNERS is a touching ode to the bond between hound and owner- a perfect gift for every dog lover you know, we give it a hearty 4 paws up.
