The Modenus BlogTour Cologne trip was an incredible experience in so many ways. It was a privilege to see an international Furnishings & Kitchen and Bath show of the scale of IMM Living Kitchen because we were exposed to products designed for different cultures and spacial uses – also technologies that are way ahead of what we have in the US. Below is a photographic tour of Kitchen and Bath trends 2013:
Ventilation Alternatives:
Space saving vent hood and sophisticated gold burner detailing by Gaggenau
Steam Cooking Technology by Miele
Efficient Wine Storage by Liebherr
Built in Humidor by Liebherr
Hygienic Surfaces Integrated into products- Health bonus, by Blanco
Blanco‘s Silgranit Sink with patented Hygienic+Plus Formula. Goodbye Food poisoning! This sink also has built in prep area for a cutting board, also addressing the space issue.
Kitchens Designed for small spaces:
Lots of laminate cabinets. Multi-functional spaces.
LED lighting
Bathrooms Making a Design Statement:
Axor turns an ordinary bath into an exotic getaway.
Faucet as sculptural art form, honoring the small space of a bathroom with Axor Starck Organic Collection
The big takeaway trend was the efficient use of smaller spaces, smaller appliances, smaller everything designed to do more and last longer. I hope we see more of that in the US. So what do you think? Do any of these ideas appeal to you?

Almost all these ideas appeal to me. I don’t care for wine, so that one doesn’t call my name. The Europeans are way ahead of us when it comes to efficiency and space-saving. But then, here in the US we’ve always gone big. I’m glad the trend is moving toward smaller.
you and me both, Alexandra- I love the efficiency we saw last week- inspiring!
Totally agree with your trends. It was such a huge show, it was nice there were enough of us so we can see what we missed or didn’t focus on.
Lisa
So true, Lisa, wonderful to see what we missed through the eyes of others.
I love all the laminate look…so sleek!!
oh, me too, Albertina, it’s just gorgeous, wish you had been there to see it.
