European Lighting Trends 2013

Ship chandelier

Behold the creative European lighting trends of 2013. One of the artists featured at Amesterdam’s Frozen Fountain is Hans van Benthum.  His whimsical style of lighting (above and below) as art is so fun, so pop, so refreshingly outside of the box.

The Umbrella Chandelier above is part of the Isn’t It Romantic exhibit at the MAKK in Cologne. Lighting as art.

Above and below, both from the store Moooi in Amsterdam.

Above and below, both grand in scale, sculptural lighting as seen at IMM Cologne, very masculine contemporary.

This lighting was definitely better in person than in photo. The exactitude of the grid made for a cool pattern of light on the table below. Good for small spaces because it has a very light feel to it since you can see through it…it does not feel like it takes up a lot of space.

medusa light

This chandelier was EVERYWHERE at IMM, in many different colors. Definitely the fixture of 2013. It looks better in person, by the way, imparting a feminine glam.

zen lighting

Above a more organic lighting approach in one of the Living Kitchen spaces.

Bottom line: European lighting trends just feel more adventurous than what we are seeing  in America. What do you think? Would you have any of these in your home?

  1. Loved all the lighting in Europe. I would place the Mooi things in my home for sure. Some do get a little wild!

  2. Gosh, so many great picks – it’s hard to choose a favorite! …I’m going to go ahead and say the four brass rings – love the look with out a bulb.

  3. Thank you for sharing! I really like the copper lamps we see these days.. would love to have one in my studio! Have a great day Courtney 🙂

  4. Great photos Courtney! Even without a real lighting section at the show, there certainly was a lot of wonderful lighting to salivate over. 🙂
