Lenny Kravitz- Infusing Soul into Interiors

In a NY Post Page Six article, the multi-talented Lenny Kravitz speaks of his dreams:

Musician and interior designer Lenny Kravitz has big plans to expand his brand Kravitz Design into a Ralph Lauren-size empire. He tells Alina Cho’s CNN show “Fashion: Backstage Pass” … “The plan is to make it a lifestyle brand . . . my dream for this company. In the same way you would see Ralph Lauren or Giorgio Armani.” He said it would include furniture, bedding and clothing.

The rocker, songwriter, actor, director and since 2003- designer is onto something. Continue reading

Eat Out More- Preparing for Outdoor Entertaining

Spring is here- are you ready to enjoy the great outdoors?  Here are some things to consider as you prepare for outdoor entertaining:

Time to plant flowers.  This is my helper, Blizzard.

Time to clean up your outdoor furniture. Or purchase outdoor furniture, it is getting better and better. Some of my favorite options pictured above.

Take a good look at your outdoor pillows and cushions.  If they are faded or no longer washable, then it may be time to get new ones.  The good news is that there are great new graphic designs and colors to chose from this season, raising the bar for outdoor decor.  If you need help with outdoor furniture or fabrics, let us know.

Blackboard Paint Brings Interactive Element to Rooms

Our gadget and social media obsessed society has inspired an interesting update to home decor that encourages self-expression: blackboard paint.

Blackboards as message boards, quote boards, menu boards…

This one cleverly tops off wainscot in a dining room. Photo credit: homedit.

How fun, encouraged self-expression for the young ones! Photo credit: style-files.

This ought to be interesting after a party… Photo credit: hammersandhighheels.

Dreamy Bedroom

I’ve been pinning… I can see how people get addicted to Pinterest. Lots of eye candy. This photo is courtesy of livinginspired.tumblr.com.  Wouldn’t this be a dreamy guest room?

What do I like about this? So much:

the antique mirror in its unexpected use as headboard,

the mirror bringing in more light to the room,

the chandelier,

white bedding, casual and not overdone,

loads of reading at arms reach,

the peaceful light color of the room.

Have any rooms that particularly inspire you? Send them in. Have a relaxing, peaceful weekend.

Bunny Williams at Design Bloggers Conference

It is always a pleasure to hear Bunny WIlliams speak about Interior Design. Bunny has for years been one of my design heros, her name is synonymous with style, elegance and sophistication… and of course, Parish-Hadley, where she got her start in design.

Bunny spoke of her path to decor stardom and offered advice to designers regarding the business of design. She showed beautiful photos of homes she has designed, offering great tips and pointers to her eager audience.  Her furniture line, Bee Line Home, will have many new items for the Highpoint Market in April.  Great news: her New York store Treillage will begin to sell online starting March 8, 2012:  http://www.bunnywilliams.com/treillage/

Bunny Williams is gracious, authentic, inspired and always a pleasure to learn from, she was truly a highlight of the 2012 Design Bloggers Conference.

Trompe L’oeil

TROMPE L’OEIL: a French term literally meaning “trick the eye”. Sometimes called illusion-ism, it is a style of painting which gives the appearance of three-dimensional, or photographic realism. It flourished from the Renaissance onward. The discovery of linear perspective in fifteenth-century Italy and advancements in the science of optics in the seventeenth-century Netherlands enabled artists to render objects and spaces with eye-fooling exactitude. Both playful and intellectually serious, trompe artists toy with spectators’ seeing to raise questions about the nature of art and perception.

Famous painting by Pere Borrell del Caso, “Escaping Criticism”, 1874 Continue reading

Shower Innovations, Over The Top Trends

What do you think about these shower innovations?

This sleek design was just introduced this year. It incorporates LED technology to alert the showerer, before stepping in, of the temperature of the water- ranging from red to blue to signify heat or cold. The LED lighting can also be set for a color therapy experience, to bathe in the color of red, blue, green or white light.

This chandelier shower head also is made with LED lighting, all white light.  It is so new that pricing and availability are not available yet.

This multifunctional shower head offers four different sprays and can be used as a wall mount or handheld.

So, what do you think…? Ready for a remodel after seeing these? Which one do you like?
