Fortuny Fabrics- the Colourismo Collection

Last week the owner of Fortuny was in Dallas to present the latest colorways of the legendary fabric line, the Colourismo Collection.  The pigments are as glorious as ever- think Hermes tie kind of purity of color. No surprise, because the namesake Mariano Fortuny (1871-1949) was an artist of the genius level, who even made his own dyes, paints and brushes.  All bright and fresh, the Colourismo fabrics will definitely inspire.  I have chosen a few to share:

I chose this one because it is a classic Fortuny design in what appears to be the color of the year!

I love the fresh happy colors in this leaf design.  All colorways are great of this.

This happy design is just so charming and whimsical. Fortuny, always a classic, seems to be updating and staying with the times beautifully. If you would like more information on patterns, colors or pricing, please contact us.

What are your thoughts on these fabrics? Do they inspire you? Do you feel that they would work in contemporary settings as well as traditional? Share your thoughts…

Console Yourself – Console Tables In Interior Design

Console tables have a long history of being a hot commodity among designers because of their functionality and good looks.

The photo below of Coco Chanel’s foyer in Paris highlights the console table’s ability to transform interiors:

History of the Console Table:

Console tables come to us from french furniture designs of the 18th century. Originally, they were small, half-moon shaped tables fastened to the wall at counter height with a “console”, which is a little curved bracket. Sometimes these special little tables had front legs to make it look like it was free-standing. Eventually, they did become free-standing, still with the half-moon shape, or sometimes a small rectangular shape. Over time, these little tables evolved to become as useful as they were decorative.

Ammonites In Interior Design

Ammonites are long extinct pieces of history that make gorgeous decorative statements in both traditional and contemporary rooms.

AMMONITE  HISTORY:

The Ammonites survived several mass extinctions during the 330 million years they lived on Earth. The end of the Cretaceous Period (65 million years ago) was also the end for these cephalopods- history fans, take note!  Ammonites are found as fossils in most countries throughout the world. The name comes from the shell’s appearance: it resembles a ram’s horn.

What we now see is only the shell of the ammonite. The ammonite lived in the larger opening at the end of the shell, which acted as protection and enabled the ammonite to regulate its body pressure as it moved through different depths of water.

AMMONITE  LORE:

Lots of good lore about ammonite: all seem to attribute prosperity, health and good luck to the fossils. They are considered to be protective stones that give stability and structure to a person’s life,  are also said to change negativity into smoothly flowing energy. Ammonites are symbolic of the higher forces of the universe and their shape is said to attract and store wealth. Feng Shui believers consider ammonite to be  high energy stones that enhance the vitality, harmony, prosperity, and overall well-being of occupants and visitors of a home.

Whether you like them for their beauty or for their “meaning”, they are fascinating relics, jewels of the earth.
