Fortuny Fabrics- the Colourismo Collection

Last week the owner of Fortuny was in Dallas to present the latest colorways of the legendary fabric line, the Colourismo Collection.  The pigments are as glorious as ever- think Hermes tie kind of purity of color. No surprise, because the namesake Mariano Fortuny (1871-1949) was an artist of the genius level, who even made his own dyes, paints and brushes.  All bright and fresh, the Colourismo fabrics will definitely inspire.  I have chosen a few to share:

I chose this one because it is a classic Fortuny design in what appears to be the color of the year!

I love the fresh happy colors in this leaf design.  All colorways are great of this.

This happy design is just so charming and whimsical. Fortuny, always a classic, seems to be updating and staying with the times beautifully. If you would like more information on patterns, colors or pricing, please contact us.

What are your thoughts on these fabrics? Do they inspire you? Do you feel that they would work in contemporary settings as well as traditional? Share your thoughts…

Console Yourself – Console Tables In Interior Design

Console tables have a long history of being a hot commodity among designers because of their functionality and good looks.

The photo below of Coco Chanel’s foyer in Paris highlights the console table’s ability to transform interiors:

History of the Console Table:

Console tables come to us from french furniture designs of the 18th century. Originally, they were small, half-moon shaped tables fastened to the wall at counter height with a “console”, which is a little curved bracket. Sometimes these special little tables had front legs to make it look like it was free-standing. Eventually, they did become free-standing, still with the half-moon shape, or sometimes a small rectangular shape. Over time, these little tables evolved to become as useful as they were decorative.

Bose TV is a Game-Changer

“To call the VideoWave a television is a bit like calling a Bugatti Veyron a car.”-Steven Williams, NY Times Review

The new Bose VideoWave entertainment system takes home theater to a new level.  This 46″ TV has a gorgeous high-definition picture and the sound clarity that you would expect from Bose, the kind of sound that lets you feel the deep rumble of stampeding hooves, the soaring clarity of a symphony, a ticking clock or the enveloping whisper of raindrops pattering around you. Powerful, emotion evoking sound that has previously required the installation of a separate home theatre audio system with multiple speakers and a bass module. Only this one has none of that, hooray, music to my design eyes!  Bose offers the first TV that completely integrates the sound system into the TV, and let me tell you, the sound and video quality are both AMAZING.   If you are watching a sporting event, you are IN THE STADIUM, with the crowd cheering all around you… sound appears to come from places that have no speakers.

This innovative click pad universal remote is brilliantly designed.  It has very few buttons and is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive. The menu wraps around the program on the screen so the viewer will not ever need to refocus (or grab the readers) to read the remote.  Another design perk: because it uses radio frequencies you don’t even have to aim the remote at the system.  The system comes with a dock to charge your iPod or iPhone, which means that this TV will play your music from these devices as well.

I can not say enough good things about this Bose VideoWave system. It delivers more than you would even think to want out of a television. If you have a Bose store nearby, this TV is definitely worth taking a look at.

Ammonites In Interior Design

Ammonites are long extinct pieces of history that make gorgeous decorative statements in both traditional and contemporary rooms.

AMMONITE  HISTORY:

The Ammonites survived several mass extinctions during the 330 million years they lived on Earth. The end of the Cretaceous Period (65 million years ago) was also the end for these cephalopods- history fans, take note!  Ammonites are found as fossils in most countries throughout the world. The name comes from the shell’s appearance: it resembles a ram’s horn.

What we now see is only the shell of the ammonite. The ammonite lived in the larger opening at the end of the shell, which acted as protection and enabled the ammonite to regulate its body pressure as it moved through different depths of water.

AMMONITE  LORE:

Lots of good lore about ammonite: all seem to attribute prosperity, health and good luck to the fossils. They are considered to be protective stones that give stability and structure to a person’s life,  are also said to change negativity into smoothly flowing energy. Ammonites are symbolic of the higher forces of the universe and their shape is said to attract and store wealth. Feng Shui believers consider ammonite to be  high energy stones that enhance the vitality, harmony, prosperity, and overall well-being of occupants and visitors of a home.

Whether you like them for their beauty or for their “meaning”, they are fascinating relics, jewels of the earth.

AMMONITE ACCESSORIES:

This ammonite is cut and polished  to expose its colorful chambers, a beautiful table accessory, 7 3/4″ high:

This pair of custom lamps incorporate a gorgeous matching pair of polished whole ammonites, artfully mixing ancient history with contemporary design:
